Abstract:

 

Kervaire - Milnor reduces the problem of classifying smooth structures on spheres to the Kervaire invariant problem and computations of stable homotopy groups of spheres. In this talk, I will discuss recent result on the strong Kervaire invariant problem in dimension 62, and joint work with Guozhen Wang that the 61-sphere has a unique smooth structure, which is the last odd dimensional case.
