The course will provide an introduction to Geometric Measure Theory suitable for beginning graduate students or advanced undergraduates. The lectures will begin with a quick review of relevant topics from basic measure theory and real analysis, then move on to more advanced topics including rectifiable sets, theory of currents, regularity theory for minimal submanifolds (and more generally varifolds with bounded first variation), including the Allard/De Giorgi regularity theory and the Allard rectifiability and compactness theorems.
A graduate or advanced undergraduate level course in real analysis and measure theory. No specific PDE prerequisites will be assumed.
A revised version (in electronic pdf format) of the instructor’s 1983 Canberra notes will be provided. (Should be available about 1 week before the start of lectures.)
