Einstein equations have specific characteristic structure, which has been extensively used in mathematical relativity such as the black hole formation theory given by Christodoulou. In numerical relativity, characteristic formalism is another option to solve Einstein equations numerically besides Cauchy formalism. And more, compared to Cauchy formalism, characteristic formalism has advantage of numerical efficiency and accuracy. But it is limited by the null caustics which always appear in strong dynamical region of spacetime. So it is very ideal to combine Cauchy and characteristic formalism together (CCM). In this talk I will address the difficulties involved in CCM. And one generalized Bondi-Sachs equations proposed by us recently will be introduced. At last I will point out the possibility to use this generalized equations to treat the difficulties we meet in CCM.
