Description:

 

 

I will give define the “chiral boson” field theory on the projective line, and (if time permits) on higher genus curves. I will define operator product expansions, actions of the Heisenberg and Virasoro algebras, and the vertex algebra structure.
 

This is in preparation for treating the case of “current algebras”, which have to do with affine Kac-Moody algebras. This will eb the subject of my course next year (February-March 2014)

 

Prerequisite:

 

Elements of complex algebraic geometry will be enough to follow the course. Some experience wrestling with traditional physics/mathematics treatments of CFT will be very useful for motivation.
