Geometric group theory is a relatively young subject but has been extensively studied by many people from different perspectives. It uses results and ideas from several different subjects and can be applied effectively to solve various problems.
Important (or rather guiding) examples of geometric groups include discrete subgroups of Lie groups. In these lectures, I will give an introduction to this active subject and indicate some applications.
Prerequisite: Differential geometry and some group theory.
