Course description:

In this series of introductory lectures, I will use many elementary and concrete examples to explain and introduce the Geometric Invariant Theory and some moduli spaces such as moduli spaces of stable curves, stable bundles and stable maps. The relation of the theory with symplectic geometry (e.g.,symplectic quotients) will also be described.



Any students with geometry and topology background are welcome to attend; knowledge of algebraic geometry will be helpful but not required.
